WHAT WE OFFER
Background
A visually impaired college student in Delhi was on the verge of giving up on his education. His mother, concerned about his future, was unsure whether he would be able to secure employment.
Challenge
Limited awareness of career options for visually impaired individuals. Lack of confidence and self-doubt about competing with sighted peers. Social stigma and discouragement from extended family and community.
Solution
I had a one-on-one mentorship session with the student and his mother, where I: Shared my personal journey of navigating the academic and corporate world as a visually impaired individual. Connected him with resources and scholarship opportunities for further studies. Guided him toward UPSC preparation, explaining how visually impaired candidates can excel in civil services.
Outcome
The student regained confidence and enrolled in UPSC coaching. He later cleared the preliminary examination and is now preparing for his final interviews. His success story inspired his college to improve accessibility services for other visually impaired students.
Key Takeaway
Education is not about having the perfect conditions-it’s about having the right mindset and support to overcome obstacles.
